Dear Sir,
I would like an information about English courses at your school in July and August. I studied English for six years at school and in my job, I have read many books and articles in English so I am quite good in understanding the language. My problem is speaking because I don’t have any opportunities to practise, so I
need a course to brush up it. I enjoy to study but I only have one month, so I
would like a course very intensive - perhaps five or six hours a day.
A friend recomended your school and also said me that you could arrange an accommodation. It would be a great pleasant for me to stay with an English family but I would like to live near the school, if possible.
If you need more information you can write to me at my home address or my work address.

                                                                                                                                          Yours faithfully.

SECTION III: READING
I. Read the text and choose the best answer to each question(from question 56 to 60). Write in your answer sheet. (5 points)

Let the children learn to judge their own work. A child learning to talk
doesn't learn by being corrected all the time: If corrected too much, he will stop talking. He notices a thousand times a day the difference between the language he uses and the languages those around him use. Bit by bit, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people. In the same way, children learning to do all the other things they learn to do without being taught-to walk, run, climb, whistle, ride a bicycle-compare their own performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the needed changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his mistakes for himself, let alone correct them. We do it all for him. We act as if we thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, or correct it unless he was made it. Soon he becomes dependent on the teacher. Let him do it himself, let him work out, with the help of other children if he wants it, what this word says, what the answer is to that problem, whether this is a good way at saying or doing this or not.
If it is a matter of right answers, as it may be in mathematics or science, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should the teachers waste time on such routine work? Our job should be to help the child when he
tells us that he can't find the way to get the right answer.
Let them get on with this job in the way that seems most sensible to them, with our help as school teachers if they ask for it. The idea that there is a body of knowledge to be learnt at school and used for the rest of one’s life is nonsense in a world as complicated and rapidly changing as ours. Anxious parents and teachers say: “But supposedly they fail to learn something essential, something they will need to get on in the world?” Don’t worry! If it is essential they will go out into the world and learn it.

Câu 56:  What does the author think is the best way for children to learn things?

Câu 57:  What does the author think teachers do which they shouldn’t do?

Câu 58: The passage suggests that learning to speak and learning to ride a bicycle are

Câu 59: Exams, grades and marks should be abolished because children’s progress should only be estimated by

Câu 60: The author fears that children grow up into adults who are

//. Read the passage and answer the questions that follow (from question 61 to 65). Write in your answer sheet. (5 points)
Of the three leading contributors to heart disease, only high blood cholesterol can be controlled by change in diet. This fact is important in view of the estimate that over 150 million Americans have excessive levels of cholesterol in their blood streams.
Cholesterol, a waxy substance found in all animal tissues, helps to form hormones and to maintain the structure of cells. Most cholesterol is manufactured by the body, but some surplus quantities enter the blood through food intake. Foods heavy in saturated fats, such as beef, butter and whole milk, increase the natural level of cholesterol in the body.
Problems occur when fatty compounds build up on the walls of arteries. The deposits gradually narrow blood vessels, and at some point the flow of blood to the heart or brain can be blocked. A clot that blocks an artery to the brain can cause a stroke, while one that blocks an artery to the heart can cause a coronary attack.

Câu 61: What’s the main idea of this passage?

Câu 62: It can be inferred from the passage that millions of Americans

Câu 63: In what way does cholesterol benefit the body?
